10.10.25 - Meeting with Ominous Outlooks: Building Inclusivity Together
Last week, I had the opportunity to sit down with Emily, the artist and activist behind Ominous Outlooks, to share WearKind's vision for making adaptive clothing accessible. Walking into that meeting, I brought along our ConfidenceClassic button down prototype, and honestly, it felt like the perfect way to show rather than just tell what we're working towards.
What made this conversation so meaningful was connecting with someone who truly understands the disability experience from the inside. Emily creates wearable fiber art that advocates for people living with chronic illness and disabilities. Her work speaks to the struggles and triumphs that often go unseen, and sitting across from her, I could feel that shared understanding of why representation and accessibility matter so deeply. Sometimes you meet people who just get it, who've lived it, and that's exactly what happened here.
Emily listened as I explained the gap we're trying to fill with adaptive clothing, how traditional fashion creates unnecessary barriers, and why this work is about dignity and self expression, not just function. She understood immediately because she's been using her own art to say something similar. That kind of alignment doesn't happen every day.
I'm looking forward to working together towards greater inclusivity in our local community. WearKind started because I saw a real need, but it's going to take collaboration with advocates like Emily to create lasting change. Together, we can create real change, not just in what people wear, but in how our community sees and supports people with disabilities.
Thank you, Emily, for taking the time to hear about our mission and for being part of this journey toward a more inclusive future.
